Wednesday, February 7, 2007 6:00:00 AM PDT | VentureDeal Staff

BURLINGAME, CA – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine released its first evaluation of applications for early-stage stem cell research grants.  The Institute was created by an authorized maximum of $3 billion in general bonds approved by state voters.

Of the 231 grants applied for, 38 were recommended for funding and another 50 were recommended for funding if grant money is available.  The highest scoring grant application was for the generation of forebrain stem cells as a therapy for Alzheimer’s disease.

The oversight committee will convene on February 15-16 to decide which applications to approve and how much money they will receive.  To view the list of applications, visit http://www.cirm.ca.gov/publicsummaries/publiclist.html.
